BREAKING NEWS from Salem today: the House of Representatives voted yes on SB 1532 to raise Oregon’s minimum wage! This is huge news — and we’re very excited to share it with you, our partners in change.
And make no mistake: we didn’t get here by accident. We got here because people like you and organizations like ours raised the issue and put pressure on our state leaders to make change so that Oregonians aren’t living in poverty while working full-time. So thank you for helping us get this across the finish line. Together we really are changing the way our economy works so fewer people are struggling to make ends meet and support their families.
Right after the vote this afternoon in Salem, our Executive Director, Andrea Paluso, shared her thoughts on this step towards a fairer economy that works for more Oregonians:
Today’s vote to raise Oregon’s minimum wage is a meaningful step towards greater economic security for Oregon women and the families who depend on them, many of whom have been struggling to make ends meet on meager wages. With more money in their pockets, these families will be better able to afford important basics like housing, food, and transportation. It’s great to see our state prioritizing workers, the backbone of our economy.
We are proud of what this wage increase will mean for so many families and feel strongly that it is the best outcome for the most people possible in Oregon at this time. And we deeply appreciate the hard work of so many that went into getting to this moment, especially our brave advocates who sometimes risk so much to speak up for what’s right based on their personal experiences. We wouldn’t be here without you.
Onward!
