BREAKING: Family Forward joins ACLU in lawsuit against Trump administration

All parents deserve the opportunity to provide a better life for their children. Head Start gives children and families, including Black, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, Latinx, and immigrant children and families, a fair opportunity to work towards a better life.

That’s why, Monday, April 28th, Family Forward Oregon joined the ACLU and a coalition of parents and Head Start providers in a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s coordinated and unlawful efforts to dismantle the Head Start program, which would be catastrophic for the millions of people who rely on it.

As a former Head Start participant, I know firsthand the impact this program has on families like mine. Head Start is a lifeline that gives parents—especially single mothers—who are either working to provide for their families, or going back to school, the ability to support their families. This program gives children the opportunity to succeed in school, strengthens their families, and our entire state.

In Oregon, we believe in caring for each other. The unfair targeting of the Head Start program hurts the children and families it was created to support, forcing families out of the workforce and into the cycle of poverty for generations to come. Cuts to Head Start are disastrous for our children’s future—and we’re fighting back.

This year, we’ve made a commitment to be loud in the face of injustice. Donate to our work towards racial, gender and economic justice today.
